Welcome to Birmingham City Council District 3 — a vibrant, historic, and growing community where neighborhoods, culture, and opportunity come together. Proudly represented by Councilor Josh Vasa, District 3 is home to residents who care deeply about their communities and work together to build a stronger future for Birmingham. Whether you are a longtime resident, a new neighbor, or simply visiting, District 3 offers a unique blend of history, diversity, local charm, and civic pride.
Councilor Josh Vasa is committed to serving the residents of District 3 through responsive leadership, community engagement, and thoughtful progress. As a member of the Birmingham City Council, Councilor Vasa works to strengthen neighborhoods, improve public safety, support economic development, and ensure city services meet the needs of the people he represents. He serves on the Committee of the Whole / Administration & Governmental Affairs, serves as Co-Chair of the Planning & Zoning Committee, and is a member of the Public Safety Committee, helping shape important decisions that impact Birmingham’s future.
District 3 proudly represents several of Birmingham’s most recognized and beloved neighborhoods, including Crestwood South, East Avondale, Five Points South, Forest Park/South Avondale, Glen Iris, Highland Park, and Redmont Park. Each neighborhood offers its own personality, rich history, and sense of community — from walkable streets and historic homes to thriving local businesses, parks, restaurants, and cultural landmarks. Together, these neighborhoods create a district filled with energy, character, and opportunity.
Education and youth development are also an important part of District 3’s foundation. The district is proud to be home to schools that help prepare Birmingham’s next generation of leaders, including Avondale Elementary, E.P.I.C. Elementary, and Glen Iris Elementary. These schools play a valuable role in supporting students, families, and the overall strength of the community.
District 3 also offers many exciting places for residents and visitors to explore. Community favorites such as Vulcan Park & Museum, Avondale Park, Railroad Park, Birmingham Botanical Gardens, Highland Park, and Five Points South showcase the beauty, history, and culture that make the district special. From outdoor recreation and family-friendly attractions to local dining and entertainment, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
At the heart of District 3 is a commitment to connection, collaboration, and community. Councilor Josh Vasa and the District 3 team encourage residents to stay engaged, attend community meetings, share ideas, and remain connected through district updates and events. Together, we can continue building a District 3 that honors its history, embraces progress, and creates opportunity for generations to come.
